Nottinghamshire YMCA listed in Sunday Times 100 Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to work for

We’re celebrating after being recognised as one of the top 100 not-for-profits to work for!

Andrea Shea, HR Director and member of the Executive Management Team has been at our YMCA for almost ten years. She reflects on working for the local charity and what the award means:

“Over the last couple of years we have grown in staffing numbers and in the diversity of what we deliver. It can be a challenge to keep a consistent culture but this award is recognition that we’re still getting it right – whilst working with more children, young people and adults than ever before, which is fantastic.

This award is recognition of all that makes Nottinghamshire YMCA one of the best places to work; committed staff working towards a shared vision; great employee benefits and training opportunities; visible and approachable leaders; a workforce that aims to embody our core values. I want us to become even better; this award is another step towards achieving even greater things at our YMCA.

I’m part of a great team and genuinely proud of this organisation.”

Our mission, based on Christian values, is to develop the mind, body and spirit of individuals, families and communities, and improve health and well-being for all. A diverse range of programmes and services are paid for by customers or funded by external agencies; holiday camps, adventure activities, youth services, health and leisure facilities and programmes, supported accommodation and settled care.

Nottinghamshire YMCA currently employs over 150 full time equivalent employees and has an active volunteer base providing over 9,500 volunteer hours each year. The organisation has a rich history dating back 145 years. It is currently developing plans for a multimillion pound Sports and Community Village in Newark.

Victoria Stubbings, HR Advisor at Nottinghamshire YMCA attended the awards ceremony in London. She has worked at Nottinghamshire YMCA for 5 years:

“I love being part of Nottinghamshire YMCA because every day I get to give something back whilst working with an amazing team of people who want to change our community for the better.”

Stanley Harris, Accounts Assistant at Nottinghamshire YMCA, is a member of the Staff Engagement Group who meet monthly. The group discuss comments and suggestions put forward by the 150 people employed by the organisation and recently launched ‘Volunteer Leave’. Employees choose from a selection of projects, and by volunteering at one of these can claim back the time as annual leave.

“I think the Best Companies award shows what a great company Nottinghamshire YMCA is to work for and that senior management genuinely care about the wellbeing of staff. The awards event was great fun and I hope to be able to attend again next year!”

Staff enjoy access to Nottinghamshire YMCA’s city centre gym which hosts a running club and a premium membership delivered by Fitness Specialists. Other staff benefits include discounted rates on holiday clubs and childcare, healthcare contributions, green travel loans and training loans.
