Staff Fun Day: Alton Towers!

Delighted staff at Nottinghamshire YMCA truly understood the meaning of ‘workplace benefits’ as the charity whisked them away for an inclusive ‘Staff Fun Day’ at Alton Towers on Thursday 27 September.

Scary rides to spa treatments…

From plummeting into the depths of Oblivion to navigating the stormy seas of the Rubber Dingy Rapids – staff were treated to a day of rides and team-building activities, with the added perk of ‘magic money’ vouchers to spend on food and treats throughout the day!

Almost 70 staff members braved the chilly September morning air to board the coach from Forest Fields Recreation Ground carpark, in Nottingham, for the adventure – (we thankfully returned with the same number of staff eight hours later!).

Organised by Nottinghamshire YMCA’s Staff Activity Group, the away day was open to all of the charity’s contracted staff. Ticket-holders enjoyed everything from walking on Air (or ‘Galactica’ as the ride is now known!) and strolling in the beautiful grounds of Alton Towers to upgrading to indulge in luxurious spa treatments at the park’s Splash Landings hotel.

Malt Cross re-opening event

If that wasn’t enough excitement for one day – upon returning to Nottingham, the team were welcomed into the recently re-opened Malt Cross bar, café and events venue to celebrate the re-launch of this beautiful former Victorian music hall.

Malt Cross’ compere, Millicent Fry, hosted the evening beautifully (performing a few little ditties of her own!) before welcoming Nottinghamshire YMCA’s CEO, Will Wakefield, to the stage to say a few words of welcome and praise for the venue’s re-opening.

Guests were treated to waiter-served canapés and a glass of processo on arrival before enjoying an evening of dancing and band music played by local group, the Limelight Orchastra.

A busy and fun day was experienced by all – bring on the next adventure!
