Do you remember your first day?

I remember meeting other work placements – I felt nervous as I had never worked in a gym before. I initially doubted it because I thought I was too old to work in a gym, but I soon felt re assured by the diverse age range. A colleague and I started our wok placement on the same day almost 3 years ago and have both progressed in our positions within the Health and Fitness team at YMCA gym.

Why do you enjoy working at Nottinghamshire YMCA?

I work with good people, in a supportive team. There is good opportunity for progression. I enjoy the health and fitness industry and enjoy the daily interaction with gym members- it’s interesting meeting different people and everyday is different, which keeps me on my toes.

What’s the best thing you’ve done whilst working here?

Starting Running Club and getting people involved in running events, especially organising our team for survival of the fittest later this year. I’ve enjoyed encouraging people to do something they haven’t done before, giving support and encouragement to our gym members and helping them to go the extra mile.

What would you say to someone thinking about applying for a job here?

If you’re interested go for it! Work hard and there is always opportunity to progress your skills. I feel that you are recognised here and all work is appreciated.
